Lynne W. Twist


Lynne Twist is an advocate and spokesperson for the end of hunger, the preservation of the world's rainforests, and the emergence of women. She is also an independent consultant and author. Lynne was one of several founding executives of The Hunger Project, an international, not-for-profit organization dedicated to ending chronic, persistent hunger worldwide.

Lynne's leadership of The Hunger Project was an important factor in the project's growth and development over the last 23 years. She has traveled extensively in both the developed and developing worlds, and addressed tens of thousands of individuals and organizations on the issue of ending hunger. As director of strategic funding, she has been responsible for providing training in fund-raising technologies to Hunger Project volunteers and staff in more than 37 countries on five continents.

Lynne and her husband Bill are founders of The Pachamama Alliance, an organization dedicated to ending the destruction of the earth's rainforests and the loss of its indigenous cultures and wisdom. Pachamama also focuses on discovering workable ways in which the knowledge and wisdom inherent in both traditional cultures and the modern world can blend into a new global vision of sustainability for us all.

Lynne serves as a trustee of the John E. Fetzer Institute and is on the boards of Youth for Environmental Sanity and the Global Security Institute. She is vice-chair of the board of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, and serves on the Council of Sages at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Lynne has served as an advisor and consultant to many global organizations including the State of the World Forum, Katalysis North/South Development Partnership, The End Hunger Network, The Esalen Institute, The Abraham Fund, the Global Commission to Fund the United Nations, International Commission on Peace and Food, Grupo Esquel Foundation and others. She is an associate of the Center for Partnership Studies.

Lynne was honored in 1994 as a "Woman of Distinction" at the United Nations by the International Health Awareness Network for her work in ending world hunger. She received the Katalysis Foundation's "Entrepreneur of the Year Award" in 1996 for her work with "The Soul of Money", and received the "New Dimension Broadcaster Award: Casting Seeds in a Wide Arc" for her work in communication and service in 1998.

Lynne has edited two books, contributed chapters in books, and has written numerous articles. She has lectured on global affairs at M.I.T., San Francisco State, and the University of California. She is currently working on a book titled, "The Soul of Money."

Lynne Twist has three grown children and one grandchild and lives with her husband, Bill, in San Francisco, California.
