KIND Graduation
On February 1 2002, KIND conducted the graduation
ceremony of students in its Computer and Arts & Craft Training programs. The
programs, which started in June 2001, were very successful.
In the Computer Training Program, from 25 youths
that had been without jobs for a minimum of 2 years, the program produced:
- 7 Software Developers: Two secured employment
with the Lagos State government in its new Information Technology move. One is
with the Shell Petroleum Development Company for the Special Shell Intensive
Training Programme (SSITP). Two are with new private software companies. One
is with the most reputable network security companies in Nigeria.
- 14 Systems/Hardware Engineers: One is with the
Nigerian Aerospace Program. Three have started their own businesses. Seven are
with local companies in different sectors of the economy.
What was achieved at the end of the program was
truly skilled IT staff who can hold their own in any part of the world.
In the Arts & Craft Training Program, two of the
students came 2nd and 3rd in the United Nations Fund for Population Poster
Competition conducted in Nigeria in the fall of 2001. Also, the beautiful
paintings displayed in the KIND Center are a testament to the accomplishment of
the ten students who underwent the training.
